Robert John Joyce, age 73, of Monroeville, passed away on February 8, 2024, after a battle with multiple myeloma cancer.
Bob was born on March 16, 1950, to James G. and Florence M. Joyce in Pittsburgh. After graduating from Carrick High School in 1968, he was drafted into the Army, working in communications.
After his service, Bob joined the Carpenters Union, Local #230 and worked as a carpenter for over 30 years. He retired in 2007 and spent his new-found free time engaging in his hobbies and spending time with his family.
In 1972, Bob met Linda Leigh LaVecchia Joyce, and they wed in 1973, going on to have two children, Jake and Jacky. He also was a grandfather to two: Addilyn and Brayden. Bob and Linda shared in many adventures over the 50 plus years they were married. They loved to travel together, went on many camping trips with friends, and really enjoyed spending time at their camp in the mountains, lovingly referred to as "the farm".
Bob was an avid woodsman who enjoyed hunting and nature watching. He also enjoyed working with his hands, including gardening, woodworking, doing projects around the house with his family, and making jewelry. He regularly attended sporting events for his kids and his grandkids and loved to cheer them on. He loved gem mining and rock-hounding. He was fond of animals, of which he had many throughout his life, such as Dana the horse and several dogs, including Blaze, Pork Chop, Choco, Breeze, and Sky, and many pet birds. He loved to vacation at the Outer Banks with his family, spending time fishing with his grandchildren, hanging out at the beach, and enjoying the sunshine. And perhaps most of all he enjoyed taking time to speak with family, friends, and people he met along the way.
Bob will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand and the way that he always seemed to make friends along the way. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “it is what it is” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will miss Bob every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, James G. and Florence M. Joyce. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda, his son, Jake (Chelsea) Joyce, his daughter, Jacky Joyce, his grandchildren, Addilyn and Brayden Joyce, his brothers Jim (the late Gigi) Joyce and Micheal (Sherry) Joyce, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received for a memorial visitation on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 118 Shaw Avenue, Turtle Creek (412-823-1950). A memorial service will be held on Wednesday February 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
Bob was a lifelong blood donor and a recipient of blood transfusions, so please consider giving the gift of life by donating blood and platelets to your local blood bank in his honor.
