Richard Martin Koontz

age 96, of Loyalhanna Twp. was called Home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 31, 2021. Dick was born on June 18, 1925 in Unity, PA to Azariah and Leota (Huemme) Koontz. Richard is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Donald) Edwards, Judith Koontz, and Lorin (David) Johnson; two sons, Robert M. (Karen Kelly) Koontz and Ronald M. (Jill) Koontz; seven grandchildren, Donald (Cole) Edwards, Susan (Scott) Cloud, Stephanie (Michael) Sgambati, Jessica (Jimmy Puzak) Hale, Trisha Johnson, Gwen (fiance, Tom) Koontz, and Neil Koontz; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jasper, Alden, Hank, Jack, Deegan, and Rayen; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances (Bash) Koontz and also 12 brothers and sisters. Dick was a truck farmer at his Loyalhanna Twp. farm and went to the East Liberty Co-op every Saturday with produce and meats for over 50 years. Uncle Dick's farm was the favorite place for all of the relatives to visit. He was an active member of the Community United Presbyterian Church where he was instrumental in building the church and moving the stain glass windows. Dick was a Sunday school teacher for 51 years, had a passion for missions, and also continued the quilting project at his church upon the passing of his wife. He was a former member of his church choir and loved singing the old hymns. Dick loved growing flowers for the Master's bouquet and was always complementary to the ladies. In his early years, he was a 4-H leader that always taught by example. Friends will be received Thursday, January 6, 2022, 3-7 PM at the Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381). Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, 10 AM at the Community United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Leonard Morgan and Rev. Ross Bash officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunger Fund c/o Community United Presbyterian Church, PO Box 361, New Alexandria, PA 15670.
