Morris “Mo” C. Hill, III, age 57, of Monroeville, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2021. Mo was born on July 28, 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Freda Blanton Hill and the late Morris C. Hill, Jr. In addition, he was the grandson of the late Iva M. and John T. Blanton.
Mo was a graduate of Gateway Senior High School and a member of the boys’ basketball team where he gained a strong passion for the game. It was at Evergreen Park where Mo’s love for the game was developed and his skills continued to advance against talented competitors. He continued his educational and athletic aspirations at Saint Vincent College where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration Accounting with minors in Administration Finance & Management. Mo was a standout on the Saint Vincent College men’s basketball team, which ultimately led him to be named as a member of the 1,000 Points Club. After graduation, Mo was hired at Mellon Bank where he worked for over 24 years, which is a testimony to his loyalty and work ethic.
It is well known that Mo was a fierce competitor on the basketball court, but more importantly he was truly a kind and generous man who always put his family and friends first. He LOVED his community and EVERYTHING about Pittsburgh sports. Mo was a walking, talking encyclopedia of all things sports. Over the years, Mo enjoyed spending time with friends at The Penn Monroe and Rosecliff Tavern. He cherished all friendships, especially those from Gateway Senior High School, his band of brothers at Saint Vincent College, and his close neighbors.
Mo was a beloved and devoted son, older brother, and uncle. These relationships were the most important in his life. He never forgot a birthday or a special event. Mo was the king of texting random messages to his family informing us of National Bobble Head Day, weather reports, and sport scores.
Mo is survived by his mother, Freda Blanton Hill of Monroeville, PA; sister, Vicki Hill Smith and husband, Casey A Smith of Austin, TX; sister, Traci Hill White and husband, Michael T. White of Tampa, FL and their son, Peyton T. White; best friend, Jim Moon and wife, Rose Moon of Wilkins Township, PA and their children Felicia, Jimmy, and Jacqueline; and numerous other loving friends. Mo will be honored at a Mass at Saint Vincent College, 300 Fraser Purchase Rd, Latrobe, PA 15650, on June 23, 2021 at 6:50 AM. A Memorial Visitation will also be held Thursday, June 24, 2021, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 445 Beatty Road Monroeville, (412) 856-4747.
