Michael Kashurba Obituary

Michael Kashurba age 93, of McCullough, Penn Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. He was born on October 27, 1927 in Boxcartown, Pa. to Onufer and Rozalia (Lyszczisym) Kashurba. Michael was predeceased by his beloved spouse of 60 years, Louise and siblings John, Mitro, Nick, Alex, Andrew, Joseph, and Anna Kohosek. He is survived by two sons, Dennis (Marsha) Kashurba of Latrobe and Glenn Kashurba, M.D. of Somerset, five grandchildren, Michael (Katrina) Kashurba, Kristine (Bill) Steinhauer, Alex Kashurba, Joseph (Kate) Kashurba, Sophie (Jaime) McDonald, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Like many of his generation, Michael was born to illiterate immigrants from Eastern Europe. He was orphaned at age 15 and moved between homes of friends and older siblings until he joined the US Navy. He served honorably from 1945 - 1947, before returning home to marry his childhood sweetheart Louise Zatezalo and starting a family and two simultaneous careers.  Michael was an early member of the newly formed Penn Township Police Department and worked full time or part time for decades. He also served as a constable for  Penn Township.  Michael's second career was as a carpenter. He built pit cars in the McCullough mine, scaffolds in steaming blast furnaces in Pittsburgh steel mills and eventually retired from Westinghouse Electric. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Police Rod & Gun club. But his true joy was as a family man with his wife, sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.  Due to the families concerns regarding Covid, the viewing and service will be private with a burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery in Export. Arrangements entrusted to Lindsay-Jobe Funeral Home, lnc., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City, 724-744-2721.  Memorial contributions may be made to the " ln Memory of Fund"  St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, 2710 Haymaker Rd., Monroeville, Pa. 15146.
