Leon Ronnie Epps was born on March 7, 1944, to Ernest Algie Epps and Lois Jane Fields in McKeesport, PA. He was raised by his grandparents, Mack and Irene Epps, in Clairton, PA. Leon was a graduate of Clairton High School where he excelled at football and track, earning a state track championship in the 4x100 relay. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving most of his time overseas, including two tours in Vietnam. He worked for the U.S. Treasury, U.S. Steel and for the Veterans Administration, from which he retired.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, son Ronald Spence, sister Carolyn Fields and grandson Jordan Spence. He is survived by his spouse of 29 years, Maggie, brother William Fields, sisters Denise Holmes and Joy Simmons, children Leon Ronnie Epps Jr., Cynthia Wilson, Paula McLean, Amber Epps, Heather Meek and Ella Epps, stepsons Lenny Spence, Vada Epps, Nathan Brown Sr. and Oscar Brown, Grandchildren Maurjani Smith, Ronnie Spence, Kahlil Epps, Maurice Epps, Elon Epps, Demetrius Tindall-Epps, Nathan Brown Jr., Garry Miller, Madison Meek, Natalya Mitchell, and Macy Meek, grandnieces Paige Fields and Ciara Stoney, and multiple great-grandchildren.
Leon was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish. His sense of humor, kindness and love of sports and driving will be missed by those closest to him.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 11:00 -12:00 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 118 Shaw Avenue, Turtle Creek (412-824-1950), followed by inurnment at McKeesport-Versailles cemetery.
