Kathleen (Kathy) Devine Hendrickson, 65, of Point Breeze, died after an on-going battle with
ovarian cancer. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Chris, of 42 years and three children,
Andrew (Drew), Thomas (Tommy), and Peter. She is also survived by wonderful
daughters-in-laws (Diana Schmalzried and Mary Katica) and grandchildren (Margaret and
Adelaide).
Kathy was born on August 18, 1954 in Drexel Hill, PA to Thomas and Betty Devine (deceased).
Kathy was a proud graduate of Trinity College (Washington, DC) in 1976 and received her Juris
Doctor from New York University as a Root-Tilden-Snow Scholar in 1979. She clerked for the
Honorable Joseph F. Weis, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit prior to
joining Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP (now K&L Gates) in 1981. During her time at the firm, Kathy
initiated a pro-bono program to represent victims of domestic violence and remained active as a
Board Member of the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.
Following her retirement from corporate law, Kathy became active in the disability legal
community, eventually leading Achieva’s Family Trust. Kathy joined the national governing
board of USA Ultimate, providing legal and business guidance to the ultimate community that
her children were members of. She was also active volunteering at Calvary Episcopal Church as
well as tutoring children at Sojourner House. Kathy never forgave Barry Bonds for his pathetic
postseason performances as a Pirate.
There will be a public memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be
made to Sojourner House, Pittsburgh. Arrangements were entrusted to JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC.118 Shaw Avenue Turtle Creek, PA (412) 823-1950. Online condolences may be made at www.jobefuneralhome.com.
