Janet Baker Obituary

Janet (Jan) L. (Stitt) Baker, age 97, a resident of William Penn Senior Suites of Jeannette, formerly of Apollo, went to be with her Lord and Savior whom she worshipped and served all of her life, on January 6, 2021. Jan was born on May 25, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late N. Ward and Sara (Albert) Stitt. Jan is survived by her son, Donald L. (Judy) Baker of Penn Township; a daughter, Sally L. (Mark) Ladisic of Charleroi; two grandchildren, Mandy (Ryan) Luchs and Michael (Heather) Baker; and six great grandchildren, Madeline, Benjamin, Andrew, Owen, Aimee and Erin. Jan was preceded in death by her loving husband Leroy (Lee) and a brother Wallace B. Stitt. She is a member of the North Apollo Church of God. In her younger years, Jan was very active in the church. Her words “I never go anywhere alone” were often heard. If they weren’t understood she would say “God is always with me". Jan worked as a bookkeeper for Armitage Market and Robbins Furniture until her retirement. During her working years, she met people she worked with or someone who was in need of help, and Jan was always happy to lend a hand.  Helping others was her calling, but she also worked hard to lovingly and selflessly raise her children. She loved to cook and bake so her home was always filled with great aromas. She always found time to nurture her friendships, even in the last four years of her life in Personal Care. She made friends there and extended her hand to help them in any way. She was known for her wit, loved to play the piano, and write poetry; still reciting many of them from memory even in her 97th year. The family wishes to thank the William Penn staff who gave Jan the nickname “JB”, offered her aid when needed, and made her days fun and enjoyable. Private visitation and service were held at Lindsay-Jobe Funeral Home Inc., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City, 724-744-2721. Interment was private at Greenwood Memorial, Lower Burrell. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Sewickley Township Public Library, 201 Highland Ave., Herminie, PA 15637 or online at www.sewickleytownshippubiclibrary.org.
