James “Jim” Richard Rathbone, 57, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday Feb. 10, 2021, at his home. Jim was born on February 11, 1963, in Murrysville, Pa., to Allan (late) and Yvonne (Galetz) Rathbone.
Jim grew up Murrysville and outside of his time in military service, spent his whole life in western Pennsylvania. He graduated Franklin Regional High School, Murrysville, in 1981, and then enrolled in Vale Technical school to study automotive mechanics. Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1982 and went through basic training at Parris Island, SC. He experienced several overseas tours including stops in the Mediterranean and Okinawa. After leaving the Corps, Jim began to work in construction and did so for many years until heath issues prevented him. He also worked many odd jobs including short-order cook.
Jim was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, trap and skeet. He was an outstanding marksman with both rifle and shotgun. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening and horticulture and always had a large number of both indoor and outdoor plants growing year-round.
Jim was the eldest of three brothers and when they were growing up, he was the leader and adventurer looked up to by his younger brothers. He will always be remembered that way.
Jim is survived by his mother, Yvonne G. Rathbone and brothers Stephen (Lisa) Rathbone and Matthew Rathbone. He was preceded in death by his father Allan M. Rathbone.
