Gussie Boss

Gussie Boss, 92, of Monroeville passed away on February 23, 2023. Gussie’s husband of nearly 60 years, Lester Boss, passed away in 2012. Gussie is survived by her four children: Peggy Boss, Janet (Michael) Hogan, Marshall (Elizabeth) Boss, and Eugene Boss. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; 1brother; nieces and nephews. Gussie was fortunate to have been raised in a family that saw the value of education. This enabled her to complete a Bachelor of Science in Education after high school and enter the teaching profession following her mother’s footsteps. Gussie began teaching physical education and health. She later taught earth sciences in which she was also trained. She also completed a masters program in Education while teaching full-time. Gussie enjoyed teaching students as well as her children (and grandchildren), watching them grow in knowledge and ability. She had a special interest in rocks, weather and demonstrating various aspects of science. After retiring from active teaching, Gussie, with the assistance of her husband, rejuvenated the church newsletter. She enjoyed documenting church activities with photos, videos and written descriptions. Many church members aided in producing these newsletters. Gussie enjoyed her dogs as well. Her second Border Terrier joined her in agility training and trials. She was accompanied on these journeys by her husband, youngest son and Norfolk Terrier. Fun was had by all! Gussie’s family expresses their thanks to the caregivers, friends and many others who so positively impacted her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gussie’s name to Westmoreland County Obedience Training Club (www.wcotc-dogs.com) or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org). A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh, 159 Bellefield Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 on July 29, 2023 at 11:00 am. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Four Seasons Activity Center, Boyce Park, on July 30, 2023 beginning at 11:30am. Family and friends are welcome to attend both to share memories and happy times.
