Smt. Gowramma, 90, wife of Sri. K. R. Channarasappa (97), passed away peacefully at her home, in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, the day after she turned 90. She was surrounded by her four children and husband of 73 years.
Smt. Gowramma was born on August 30, 1933, in Vijaypura, Karnataka, India. She was the fourth of eleven children. She is survived by two younger brothers, Shivananda and Prabhu Dev, and a younger sister, Indira.
Smt. Gowramma was a devoted wife to her husband Sri. K. R. Channarasappa and loving mother to her four children, Suresh, Satish, Nagendra and Shoba. Smt. Gowramma was a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren, Anirudh, Amogh, Ankita, Amulya, Achal, Amrith, Nandita and Sumita. She was beloved to all, including her in-law children Vishwanath, Mayura, Anupama, Hemalatha and her in-law grandchildren Keerthi and Michael.
Smt. Gowramma, alongside her husband and children, was devoted to S. V. Temple and the community that has arisen around it. She was a leader and a dedicated pillar of the Indian community in Pittsburgh for over 50 years.
Sharnu shararnarthi. Smt. Gowramma was a sharanae of the highest order, doing her Linga pooja daily. At all the Veerashaiva gatherings in Pittsburgh, she always led the vachana vocalizations to music. She loved music and had a rare special ability to play music, on any instrument, by ear.
Smt. Gowramma loved life and was loving and gracious to everyone that she had in her life and that she ever met. She will be deeply missed by all.
