Gerald Edward McGinnis, Jr., age 60 of Pittsburgh, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
Gerald "Jer" graduated from Gateway High School in 1979 and attended Northwestern University. Jerry was one of the first employees of Respironics, the company newly formed by his father, working his way up to Shipping and Receiving Manager. After retirement, he took an interest in real estate and obtained his license in Maryland. He resided in Deep Creek for 20 years and recently relocated to Washington's Landing, where he was known as "The Mayor of Dock H". He was an avid Steelers fan and hosted many joyful gatherings on his 40' house boat, Reality.
On behalf of the family foundation, he directed charitable investments to Camp Guyasuta, Northwestern University and had a special interest in the waterways of Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean A. McGinnis; parents, Gerald and Audrey McGinnis, Sr.; son, Connor McGinnis; step-son, Jason Remmy; step-daughter, Robyn Chilcote; step-grandchildren, Charles and Maddie Chilcote, and Reese and Brody Remmy; sisters, Alicia (Victoria) McGinnis and Megan Dayton; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews and close friends.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 29, 2021, 1-5 pm at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747), where a blessing service will take place at 5:00 pm. Masks will be required upon entry.
