Charles R. Barr

Age 87 of Monroeville, formerly of Wilkinsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 13, 2021. Beloved husband of Donna  L. (Evans) Barr. Loving father of Jim Barr, Richard Pokrant, and the late Beth Lynn Barr. Grandfather of Bethany Speer and Sarah Sloneker. Also survived by his brother, Bill (Kelly Wirth) Barr; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his daughter, he was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Barr and Dorothy (Fisher) Barr; brother, Robert Barr; and his faithful dogs, Oliver and Kacey. Charlie was a proud Army veteran, and following his military service he began his career as a Wilkinsburg Police Officer. He served the community for 40 years, working his way up the ranks and retiring as Lieutenant. He was a member of the F.O.P. and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville. An avid car and bicycle enthusiast, his garage door would always be open to help fix the neighborhood children's bicycles. He built numerous bikes for the local children, and was pivotal in the Wilkinsburg Bike and Safety Check program. Charlie will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to everyone he met. Family and friends will be received Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). (There will be no visitation on Friday) Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. As a courtesy to the family, masks will be required. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wilkinsburg.
