Edith Tubbs Obituary

Edith Claudine (Sigmon) Tubbs of Plum, passed away quietly on Tues., June 19, 2018 in Concordia of Monroeville, at the age of 84. Born Sept. 21, 1933 in Claremont, NC, she was a daughter of the late Claude E. and Carrie V. (Hefner) Sigmon.  She married James B. Tubbs, Sr. on Sept. 23, 1951 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Conover, NC.  After moving to North Versailles in 1963, Edith became very active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Braddock.  She was very active with the Women's Society as treasurer and Immanuel Women's were extremely active in the community.  After the closing of Immanuel, she became active in her new church, First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran in Oakland.  She took pleasure in babysitting for mothers who were learning English and having bible teaching by Pastor Eric Andre.  She also prepared several meals for the student bible study.  After the passing of her husband James, Edith moved to Plum to live with her daughter Yvonne and her husband Gene.  Edith loved to cook and bake, and was famous for her chicken and dumplings and fantastic cookies which graced many wedding tables.  She had a wonderful ability to sew and make clothing, including wedding gowns.  She was known as "Claudine" by immediate family, "Edie" by Pittsburgh friends, Grandma Edie to multiple children who all loved her like their own, and Mam-Mama to her great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; brothers, Ray and James B. (Mildred) Sigmon; brother-in-law, Thomas Tubbs (Elizabeth); sisters-in-law, Margaret McNiece (Joseph), Jean Petrow Dunlap, and Mildred Reusch (George).  Edith is survived by children, James B. Tubbs, Jr. (Ann) and E. Yvonne Jazwinski (Gene); sisters, Ruby Wallace and Norma Jean Harris (Wilson); 5 grandchildren, Melissa Moore (Jason), Yvonne Tubbs, Gene Jazwinski, Jr. (Jennifer), Robert Jazwinski, and Jessica Bailey (Claude); 8 great-grandchildren, Alexis Tubbs, Malik Ridgley, Kendall Bailey, Quinten Bailey, Juliet Jazwinski, Joslyn Jazwinski, Jade Jazwinski, and Jemma Jazwinski, all of whom were her pride and joy; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.  Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday, June 24 at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) corner of Beatty Rd. & 48 North, Monroeville (412-856-4747).  Funeral service will be 11:00 AM at First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 531 N. Neville St., Pittsburgh (Oakland) 15213. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.  Memorial contributions may be made to her church at the above address.
